Areas of Practice

1. Family Law. Attorney Burns devotes a significant portion of his practice to family law, including divorce, custody and support cases, representing both parents and grandparents. In addition, he also handles Protection From Abuse (PFA) issues, adoptions, as well as change of names.

2. Criminal Law. Attorney Burns handles all levels of criminal matters, from speeding tickets and DUIs to more serious matters including misdemeanors and felonies. He receives a number of criminal court appointments from the Judges in Cambria County each year, as well as serving as a Criminal Conflicts Attorney  for the Blair County Court of Common Pleas where he focused on post-conviction matters. He is certified by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to defend death penalty cases on appeal.

3. Personal Injury. Attorney Burns can represent you in all types of personal injury cases, including slip and fall and auto accidents. He will be glad to meet with you in the hospital or your residence to discuss your case. He has successfully battled large insurance firms in these serious matters.

4. Municipal Law. Besides serving as a municipal solicitor representing both townships and boroughs where he has authored numerous ordinances, Attorney Burns has also successfully represented a number of individuals in various disputes with local government. His most significant case was the successful suit against the City of Johnstown to block demolition of the historic Roxbury Park Bandshell in 2005.

Election Law, Appellate (Appeals), Children and Youth (CYS) cases representing both parents and children, general civil matters, magistrate matters, Wills and Powers of Attorney, Contracts, gun licensing issues, Liquor Control Board citations, PennDot licensing issues, and historic preservation cases.


Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Indiana and Somerset Counties.

Attorney Burns has also argued cases before the Pennsylvania Superior Court and Commonwealth Court.
